This series of farm buildings of the eighteenth century sits in the woods on the outskirts of Ballymahon, County Longford, Ireland. Existing buildings originally formed three sides of a courtyard, and a crumbling old wall as completed. A new one-story wing replaces the old wall and offers an open kitchen to the dining room and living room. On the back has stayed the master bedroom, en suite. Existing buildings have been restored, including bedrooms, bathrooms, study and garage. The introduction of this new wing is an attempt to complete the courtyard, while allowing for visual transparency between the courtyard and surrounding forests. Outside, the oiled cedar siding trying to connect the new wing with its wooded setting, while offering the warmth of wood for the inner courtyard, something missing in the existing buildings.
